Also, the food is bloody brilliant. We gorged ourselves on all manner of sweets and had delicious dinners for pocket change. We saw some crazy stuff, met some crazy people, bought some crazy things, and in general this particular pocket of civilisation fulfilled my happiest expectations of what China would be. The Muslim Quarter of Xi'an
It's easy to forget that a country like China actually has a large population of Muslims, Christians and Jews. I suppose it is narrow minded to presume that just because China is Asian, that the population would all be Buddhist or Taoist. Anyways, the Muslim Quarter in Xi'an is named because it falls underneath The Great Mosque. More amazing than anything religious, however, is the sense of community you get from this small area. It is the nicest vibe I have felt from an area since arriving in mainland China.
